This Week in Grade 3 (Oct 5th - Oct 9th)

  This Week in Grade 3 (Oct 5th - Oct 9th ) ELA Learned how to form topic sentences. Unscrambling words to make two, three, four and five letter words. Math Continued place value and learned how to properly place numbers in a place value chart. Students worked with numbers in the thousands, ten thousands and hundred thousands. Began representing numbers word form . Art: Students have been enjoying working on drawing Halloween art at the end of each day. They will be making a booklet of all their drawings to take home on Halloween! Steam: Students went outside on a community walk and used nature such as fallen leaves, berries, sticks, rocks to create wonderful figures such as hot air balloons, creative spirals etc. Students did an amazing job using natural materials creatively and thinking outside the box to bring their ideas to life! Buddies: Students worked with their Grade 1 buddies to create Thanksgiving art by transforming their turkeys into imaginative characters and objects...

This Week in Grade 3 (Sept 28 th - Oct 2 nd ) We had a meaningful Orange Shirt Day assembly this week. A huge thank you to all of our Grade 3 students for the important roles they took on and for the care and respect they showed throughout the assembly. You all did a wonderful job! A special thank you to our Grade 3 speakers for taking on the important responsibility of sharing their voices with our school community. Your preparation, courage, and effort were truly appreciated. Thank you as well to all of the parents and families who came out to support our students and be part of this important day. ELA Learned how to write a letter, including the structure and features of a letter. Wrote letters to Phyllis Webstad , author of The Orange Shirt Story , reflecting on Orange Shirt Day and what they learned.    This Week in Grade 3 (Sept 21 st -Sept 24 th ) Hello Everyone, It was lovely to meet some of you this week at Meet the Teachers! What a wonderful evening it was, and I really enjoyed having the opportunity to connect with you and learn a little more about our class community. Thank you to everyone who was able to stop by and say hello. I’m looking forward to a wonderful year together and to getting to know each of the students even better as the year progresses! It was also a busy and meaningful week in Grade 3! This week, students took part in the annual Terry Fox Run. We learned about the legacy and impact Terry Fox had on cancer research through his Marathon of Hope. We also read a book about the life of Terry Fox through the perspective of his friend, Doug Alward. This provided students with an opportunity to connect their learning to our current ELA focus on the differences between biographies and autobiographies. It was a busy week in Grade 3!   Grade 3 Weekly Newsletter Welcome to Grade 3! I’m so glad to be joining the McKenzie Towne School community! We have had a wonderful start to the school year, and I’m looking forward to all the learning, growth, and fun ahead with our Grade 3 students. Week 1 — Building Our Classroom Community Our first week was all about getting settled into Grade 3 and getting to know one another! Spent time getting to know our classmates and building our classroom community. Learned about our classroom routines and expectations. Practiced how we can work together and show respect to one another. Participated in activities and games to help us get to know each other. We began using our visual journals to look more closely at the things around us. We practiced noticing details, asking questions about what we see, and thinking about what the things around us remind us of. Took part in simple STEAM and team-building challenges.
